Women and the City
More than 80% of women consider that the city creates a sense of freedom.
The city is above all a place of freedom. This is the overriding sentiment expressed by men and women on all continents. Even so, one out of every two "homo urbanus" is a woman, which raises the question of whether they see the urban environment differently.
At the day-to-day level, mobility as practiced by women involves considerable use of public transportation; they are also more likely to walk in Europe or ride a bicycle in Asia.
Women in the City: personal talk from city women

"Although women are by no means a uniform group when it comes to their representations and uses of urban spaces, one promising approach is to systematically factor in their specific experiences in order to improve the well-being of all large-city dwellers around the world."
