Paris
On a loop in the Seine, the position of the city of Paris has been occupied since Neolithic times. Since the 18th century, the French capital has also been the world capital of fashion and luxury goods. Symbol of France's global reach, Paris is the world's most visited city.
Parisians and their city
- Some 82% of Parisians are satisfied with their city.
- Although 65% have chosen to live (or remain) there, just 58% want to see their children grow up there.
- Some 66% trust their fellow Parisians and have a positive opinion of their living environment and the city's economic vitality.
- Despite that, they are strikingly pessimistic: 47% of Parisians think that their city will go downhill in the next 10 years.
- The three main problems they cite are housing prices (81%), safety (36%) and pollution (36%).
- They would like to see more public transit (26%) and in particular light rail (57%).
Parisians and the environment
- Some 82% of them believe they will have to change the way they live to preserve the environment,
- while 85% think it will not happen without them.
- Reducing and recycling their waste (64%) and taking public transit more often (53%) are the things they are willing to do.
- Likewise, measures to promote telecommuting (87%), create bicycle trails (56%) and even cut back on public lighting (53%) are looked upon favorably.
