London

Located on the Thames, the capital of the United Kingdom was founded by the Romans in the 1st century BC. Today, one of the most extensive cities in the world, London is a financial and commercial market, and a major cultural center.

Londoners and their city

  • Some 82% of Londoners are satisfied with their city. Although 65% have chosen to live (or remain) there, just 51% want to see their children grow up there.
  • Some 62% trust their fellow Londoners. Opinions are divided about the quality of their living environment, which they consider polluted.
  • Londoners stand out for their pessimism: 50% think that their city will go downhill in the next 10 years. More than 30% are considering leaving London for a better quality of life.
  • The three areas for improvement in their city are safety (68%), housing prices (63%) and difficulty finding work (27%).
  • Public transit is considered to run well (80%).

Londoners and the environment

  • Some 72% of them believe they will have to change the way they live to preserve the environment,
  • while 92% think it will not happen without them.
  • Reducing and recycling their waste (60%) and taking public transit more often (49%) are the things they are willing to do.
  • Likewise, measures to promote telecommuting (87%), create bicycle trails (54%) and even institute urban tolls (50%) are looked upon favorably.
